There is no consensus about mighty Google once you leave the search realm behind. Personally, I get a little excited everytime Google releases a new product. I use Google Docs on my Macbook instead of spending hundreds of dollars on Word (oh, but what will I ever do without Passport!?!?!), switched from a Yahoo!/Hotmail confluence to Gmail as soon as I could, and love Google 411. And so on.
I find it out that a lot of people consider these products to be less than Google might intend because they literally don’t drive competitors out of business.
But, as Rex Hammond astutely points out, Google’s inability (and who really cares) to impel the competition to shutter operations doesn’t stop everyone from declaring the next product a blank-killer (via Micro Persuasion).
